Phone system integrations

Connect calls and contact data to the tools your team already uses. Start with the job you need done, then check the phone system's supported route, edition, permissions, and data access before installing a connector.

This hub is a guide to integration options and official documentation. A link to an API or marketplace does not establish that a particular third-party product works with every phone system or release.

Choose your phone system

Phone system Documented starting point Check before you build
3CX 3CX CRM integration guides and CRM template guide Whether the connector is maintained by 3CX or a third party; the supported version and CRM API fields.
Microsoft Teams Phone Microsoft's contact centre integration models Which certified model applies, and the tenant, licensing, and resource-account requirements.
Zoom Phone Zoom Phone API and webhook guide Plan eligibility, app permissions, event coverage, and whether the workflow needs the Zoom Phone client.
RingCentral RingCentral Voice API guide Which calling, call-log, or subscription API supplies the needed data.
Asterisk Asterisk REST Interface guide Whether the proposed application needs call control, asynchronous events, and dialplan changes.

These are platform entry points, not a cross-platform compatibility claim. Confirm the exact phone-system release, third-party product, subscription, region, and requested action in both vendors' current documentation.

CRM and helpdesk

Decide whether you need caller lookup, click to call, contact creation, call journaling, or all four. These are separate functions. A connector that displays a contact record may not write a call record back.

For 3CX, start with its supported CRM list. Its template guide explains the API fields and testing path for a custom CRM. For other systems, use the platform guide above and the CRM vendor's own connector instructions.

Contact centre

Write down who owns call routing, queue state, agent presence, recordings, and reports. Microsoft's Teams contact centre guide distinguishes its supported integration models. Treat an advertised Teams connection as a starting point until the exact model and provider certification are confirmed.

Reporting and automation

Define the minimum data set first: call start and end events, missed calls, recordings, queue events, or a completed call log. Check retention, event timing, rate limits, permissions, and how duplicates are handled. Zoom's Phone API and webhook guide and RingCentral's Voice API guide describe different ways to obtain phone data.

Build a custom connector

  1. Record the exact phone-system product and release, account plan, region, and target application's version.
  2. Name the action and direction of each data flow. Separate reading contact data from controlling calls.
  3. Check the vendor's supported API, authentication, permissions, and test environment.
  4. Test with a limited account and sample data. Verify failure handling, duplicate events, number formatting, and time zones.
  5. Document who supports the connector and what happens when either vendor changes its API.

For an Asterisk application that needs call control, start with the official ARI guide. For 3CX CRM templates, use the 3CX template guide. These paths solve different problems; choose the interface for the task.

Before production

Get approval for the data that leaves the phone system, especially contact details, recordings, and call logs. Test emergency calling and normal call routing after any change to call handling. Keep a rollback route and confirm the integration's owner, support terms, and update process.
