Review codec policy and transcoding load
A codec policy can drift when phones, trunks or firmware change. Review the live offer on a sample call, not only the saved policy document.
Compare the legs
- Check the codec negotiated between endpoint and PBX, then between PBX or SBC and carrier.
- Record where transcoding occurs and whether its capacity is adequate at busy-hour call volume.
- Confirm that packetisation and bandwidth estimates still match the approved link plan.
Sample a route with a remote site or mobile client if those paths use a different codec. Record the tested path, date and software versions. If the policy changed without approval, assign a review rather than silently copying the new settings into the documentation.
Use the voice codecs guide when comparing the supported options.
