Use this checklist before a VoIP test, pilot, or rollout. It covers six basics that are easy to miss.

It is a starting point, not a full project plan. You still need to check security, emergency calling, the site network, the change plan, and how to roll back.

Things to check

The internet connection has enough reliable upload capacity for the busiest call period.

The router or firewall gives voice traffic priority with Quality of Service (QoS).

A separate voice network or VLAN is planned if needed.

The phones, phone system, and firmware are supported and up to date.

The emergency-calling address and backup steps are written down.

The test plan covers incoming and outgoing calls, latency, jitter, and packet loss.

Keep a record

For each completed item, record who checked it, what they tested, the date, and when it should be reviewed again. Fix unchecked items before rollout, or record who accepted the risk and why.
